Construction work on the landmark 100 MW Siyambalanduwa 'Rividanavi' Solar Power Park in Monaragala District has entered an advanced engineering phase, bringing Sri Lanka's largest single location utility solar project closer to full grid commissioning. Developed under a public/private partnership framework coordinated by the Ministry of Power and Energy and the Sustainable Energy Authority, the Rividanavi complex spans over 500 acres of non-arable dry zone land in Siyambalanduwa. The installation utilizes high efficiency bifacial solar PV panels paired with single axis tracking systems to maximize solar energy yield across the year. The project scope includes constructing a dedicated 132 kV grid interconnection transmission line stretching 27 km to connect the solar park directly to the national grid via the Monaragala primary substation. Once fully operational, Rividanavi will generate over 200 GWh of clean electricity annually, offsetting approximately 150,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions while reducing national oil import expenditure. Local administrative leaders emphasized that the project has created hundreds of technical and construction jobs in Siyambalanduwa while establishing a community development fund to support local schools and rural water schemes.
