The North Central Provincial Folk Heritage Council and local temple guilds conducted an intensive traditional music apprenticeship program along the Malwathu Oya cultural reserve in Anuradhapura today, September 23, 2026.

Master percussionists trained young musicians in the distinctive polyrhythmic beats of the Davula and Tammattama drums, while senior rural singers documented rare agricultural field verses (Goyam Kavi). Organizers highlighted that preserving ancient oral folk melodies connects the younger generation with Sri Lanka’s rural irrigation traditions and agrarian heritage.
