Conservation teams from the Department of Archaeology and the Atamasthana Planning Committee have unveiled completed stone stabilization treatments on world-renowned carved moonstones (Sandakada Pahana) and guardstones across Anuradhapura's Mahavihara and Abhayagiriya complexes.

Using specialized organic biocides and breathable consolidants, heritage conservators cleaned lichen and microscopic salt encrustations without disturbing delicate 5th-century crystalline limestone and granite carvings. In conjunction with artifact preservation, municipal authorities established shaded eco-friendly pilgrim corridors lined with indigenous Na and Mee trees, solar drinking-water fountains, and barrier-free access ramps, enhancing the cultural pilgrimage experience for domestic devotees and international visitors.
