The Batticaloa Teaching Hospital inaugurated an advanced 18-bed Pediatric High-Dependency Unit (HDU) today, September 25, 2026, significantly strengthening tertiary clinical capacity for critically ill infants and children across the Eastern Province.

Equipped with specialized respiratory ventilators, multi-parameter monitors, and dedicated neonatal stabilization suites, the unit addresses previously unmet pediatric critical-care demands. Concurrently, hospital management deployed two fully equipped mobile clinical vans to provide routine pediatric screenings, maternal health evaluations, and preventative fever management clinics in remote agrarian communities across Vahaneri and Kiran.
