The Central Cultural Fund (CCF), in partnership with the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, launched a specialized microclimate monitoring protocol today, September 21, 2026, within the inner shrines and the historic Octagon (Paththirippuwa) of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.

Conservators have placed non-invasive digital humidity and temperature sensors to track moisture absorption across ancient timber structures and delicate floral murals dating back to the Kandyan kingdom. The continuous telemetry allows preservation experts to regulate airflow and prevent fungal deterioration during extended periods of highland monsoon dampness without compromising the sacred architectural fabric.
