The Central Cultural Fund (CCF), in technical collaboration with the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic), has launched a specialized scientific conservation project to preserve historic 18th-century Kandyan-era tempera murals.

Using non-invasive multi-spectral imaging, conservators are documenting underlying preparatory sketches, mineral pigment compositions, and localized humidity deterioration along temple wall panels. Conservation teams are applying organic consolidants to stabilize flaking natural earth pigments, ensuring the vibrant visual chronicles of Kandyan Buddhist artistry remain protected against atmospheric weathering for generations to come.
