The Central Cultural Fund (CCF) together with the administration of the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic) in Kandy has commenced an ambitious digital heritage preservation initiative aimed at safeguarding fragile medieval artifacts and historical Ola leaf manuscripts.

The project employs non-invasive LiDAR scanning and multispectral imaging to capture millimeter-accurate digital twins of the temple complex's carved wooden pillars, stone balustrades, and ancient royal chambers. Concurrently, conservators at the Maligawa Research Library are digitizing rare palm-leaf manuscripts containing historic Ayurvedic treatments, astronomical charts, and Theravada Buddhist treatises. Curators noted that the open-access digital repositories will enable global scholars and domestic educators to explore Kandyan art history while ensuring permanent archival security against climatic degradation.
