The Central Province Directorate of Health Services, in coordination with the National Hospital of Kandy, has placed all divisional public health units on high alert under the national Event-Based Surveillance (EBS) framework following rising water levels along the Mahaweli River.

Specialized medical teams equipped with water purification supplies, leptospirosis chemoprophylaxis, and emergency first-aid stocks have been pre-deployed to community health centers in low-lying divisions, including Pasbage Korale, Ganga Ihala Korale, and Peradeniya. Provincial medical officers urged residents in inundated areas to consume only boiled water, avoid wading through urban flood run-offs, and report sudden fever clusters immediately to local public health inspectors.
