Following community discussions regarding the removal of unauthorized roadside fish stalls at Dewata Beach in Galle, the Coast Conservation Department (CCD) and the Galle Municipal Council have agreed on a structured relocation plan to regularize smallholder fish trade.

Under the coordinated framework, local artisanal fishmongers who land their daily catch along Dewata Bay will be accommodated in standardized, hygienic stall structures positioned beyond the high-tide coastal setback zone. Municipal officers noted that the initiative safeguards coastal dune vegetation from unregulated encroachment while ensuring local fishing families retain reliable commercial vending points for visiting domestic and international tourists.
