The Coconut Cultivation Board (CCB) has commenced the disbursement of a Rs. 2.5 billion specialized national subsidy scheme aimed at safeguarding coconut yields across the Kurunegala district and neighboring Coconut Triangle cultivation corridors.

Under the initiative, registered estate owners and smallholders can access grants of up to Rs. 50,000 per acre (capped at five acres) for constructing on-farm water storage ponds and installing mini-sprayer micro-irrigation systems, alongside Rs. 200 per tree for soil moisture retention techniques such as coconut husk burial. Agrarian officials and regional CCB branches in Kurunegala and Kuliyapitiya are coordinating technical evaluations to ensure efficient water deployment and mitigate the impact of prolonged dry spells on national nut production.
