The Coconut Development Authority (CDA) together with the Coconut Research Institute (CRI) has launched an expanded value-addition initiative targeting small and medium estate holders across Kurunegala, the core hub of Sri Lanka's Coconut Triangle.

Announced during an industry stakeholder forum in Kurunegala today, September 27, 2026, the program provides technical assistance, ISO-compliant processing equipment, and low-interest matching grants to modernize virgin coconut oil (VCO) extraction and aseptic coconut water bottling. In parallel, agronomy officers are rolling out high-density intercropping schemes pairing coconut palms with dragon fruit, pepper, and ginger. CDA officials projected that transitioning from raw coconut auctions to certified high-value packaged organics will boost Kurunegala's export receipts significantly over the next two fiscal quarters.
