The Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka (CRI) concluded stakeholder consultative rounds today, September 24, 2026, finalizing its Ten-Year Sector Roadmap and Five-Year Strategic Plan at its Lunuwila headquarters in the Kurunegala District.

Presided over by CRI Chairman Professor Ajith Jayaweera, the strategy focuses on mitigating weather-induced crop fluctuations following an 11% yield increase recorded earlier this year. Through digital GPS canopy monitoring, drip irrigation subsidies, and subsidized distribution of drought-hardy dwarf hybrid seedlings, the institute aims to elevate national annual coconut yields to over 3.6 billion nuts, strengthening export revenues across desiccated coconut, virgin oil, and activated carbon industries.
