The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court has dismissed a special bail application submitted on behalf of opposition parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, ordering him to remain remanded in judicial custody pending the next formal court hearing.

Rajapaksa's defense counsel had requested bail citing commitments to attend religious observances and planned overseas travel to India. However, state prosecutors representing the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) strongly objected, emphasizing that ongoing investigations into alleged public enterprise financial transactions require the suspect's detention to prevent potential interference with key material witnesses.
