The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) and the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation (SLLDC) activated all major stormwater pumping stations along the St. Sebastian, Dehiwala, and Mutwal canal networks today, September 22, 2026.

With the Department of Meteorology forecasting continued monsoon rain bands across the Western Province, municipal engineers are operating automated sluice gates to prevent localized inundation in low-lying commercial and residential quarters of Colombo North and Central. Emergency drainage squads remain deployed around the clock to clear canal trash traps and ensure unimpeded urban drainage into the Kelani River estuary.
