Officials clarified that temporary wave washes across low-lying beach verges represent customary southwest monsoon surge swells aggravated by localized thundershowers. While urging fishermen and coastal residents from Hikkaduwa to Unawatuna to observe routine maritime safety precautions, authorities confirmed that coastal infrastructure and sea defenses remain secure.
