Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath is set to lead Sri Lanka's official delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in Colombo today, September 26, 2026.

During the high-level diplomatic summit from September 27 to 30, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to deliver Sri Lanka's National Statement at the UN General Debate on September 28. Official communiqués outline that Sri Lanka's address will articulate sovereign economic stabilization strategies, progressive social welfare priorities, and strengthened multilateral commitments toward climate adaptation and South Asian maritime security. The delegation will also conduct bilateral meetings with regional leaders and international development partners to advance trade ties and sovereign financing frameworks.
