The Forest Department of Sri Lanka, working alongside university biodiversity researchers, operationalized a network of automated ecological monitoring stations across the Sinharaja Forest Reserve's peripheral corridors in Ratnapura today, September 25, 2026.

Situated in the Waddagala and Delwala buffer zones of the UNESCO World Heritage tropical rainforest, the high-precision stations continuously track micro-climate humidity, canopy temperature fluctuations, and stream hydrology. Researchers explained that data gathered from the sensor array will help assess indigenous flora regeneration and measure the migration of endangered endemic amphibians and bird flocks across newly reforested corridor belts connecting fragmented forest patches.
