Sri Lanka's newly commissioned 10MW/40MWh utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the Galle district has successfully completed its initial multi-day operational grid synchronization trials under the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

Transmission engineers confirmed that the lithium-iron-phosphate battery facility has begun responding automatically to high-speed sub-second frequency variations, effectively smoothing out intermittent renewable generation feeds from coastal solar arrays and Southern Province wind installations. Officials noted that the facility marks a crucial operational proof-of-concept for the island's renewable energy transition, cutting diesel-peaker generator activations during evening demand spikes.
