The Gampaha Regional Directorate of Health Services, in coordination with the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU), launched a high-intensity mosquito vector containment campaign across the Gampaha District today, September 26, 2026.

Triggered by continuous monsoonal precipitation creating potential mosquito breeding sites, public health inspectors deployed camera-equipped aerial drones to detect stagnant rainwater pooling on inaccessible industrial rooftops, commercial yards, and blocked perimeter drainage in Negombo, Ja-Ela, and Wattala. Regional medical officers emphasized that specialized fever triage desks have been activated across local base hospitals, urging residents experiencing high fever, retro-orbital pain, or vomiting to seek immediate blood testing rather than taking unprescribed medication.
