The Department of National Botanic Gardens has launched an expanded environmental education circuit at the historic Henarathgoda Botanical Garden in Gampaha, specifically designed to introduce primary and junior secondary students to Sri Lanka's rich native plant heritage.

The guided educational program features hands-on botanical workshops, tree-canopy exploration paths, and interactive sessions explaining the historic introduction of the first rubber trees to Sri Lanka in 1876. Educational officers noted that the field trips provide children with practical outdoor experiences that foster environmental conservation values and biodiversity awareness at an early age.
