Senior government ministers and representatives from the High Commission of India officially inaugurated 'Nanda Gama,' a modern model housing village in Kegalle District constructed under the Indian Grant Assistance housing program. The development delivers 45 permanent brick-and-concrete houses to low-income plantation worker families and landless rural residents across Kegalle. Each home features clean water connections, electricity grid access, modern sanitation, and individual garden plots. In addition to housing units, the project constructed internal paved access roads, a community center hall, and a child development center serving village families. The Minister of Environment, speaking at the ceremonial handover, commended the Indian government's sustained partnership in social infrastructure development, noting that 'Nanda Gama' represents a major uplift in rural living conditions. Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude as permanent housing replaces vulnerable temporary quarters, providing security and dignity ahead of monsoonal weather seasons.
