Engineers from the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) and Irrigation Department deployed automated telemetry systems across the headworks of the Iranamadu Reservoir in Kilinochchi District. As the principal freshwater reservoir in the Northern Province, Iranamadu plays a dual role in supplying purified drinking water through the Jaffna-Kilinochchi Water Supply Scheme and sustaining irrigation across thousands of hectares of paddy fields. The real time monitoring upgrades enable hydrologists to optimize sluice gate management during monsoon inflows, ensuring structural safety while safeguarding domestic drinking water reserves for regional distribution networks.
