In celebration of National Children's Day Week, student nature societies across Wadduwa, Kalutara, and Beruwala officially launched the 'Coastal Turtle Guardians' educational initiative today, September 26, 2026.

Coordinated alongside marine wildlife biologists and coastal community hatcheries, the program engages over 400 primary and secondary students in hands-on workshops on safeguarding endangered Olive Ridley and Green turtles that nest along the southwestern coastline. Student nature ambassadors are participating in guided twilight beach surveys to identify nesting pockets, learning how to deter plastic waste contamination, and creating vibrant schoolyard murals that champion marine conservation across their local fishing communities.
