The Kandy Lake Club, in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Central Province, inaugurated a specialized traditional performing arts masterclass today, September 21, 2026, focused on the preservation of indigenous Kandyan percussion.

Led by veteran traditional drummers and ritual choreographers, the initiative trains over 60 aspiring young musicians in the complex polyrhythms of the Geta Bera and classical vannam chants. Organizers emphasized that institutionalizing formal accreditation for highland folk musicians ensures that centuries-old acoustic traditions are passed down with technical rigor to the next generation.
