As part of its 'City of Renaissance' Local Government Week, the Kandy Municipal Council inaugurated a network of student-led environmental health clubs across municipal schools today, September 22, 2026.

Under the initiative, over 800 school students are participating in interactive workshops on urban biodiversity conservation, rainwater drainage hygiene, and organic schoolyard gardening. Municipal health inspectors and educators stated that engaging children directly in civic environmental stewardship creates long-term community resilience against waterborne illnesses and instills pride in Kandy’s historic urban ecosystem.
