Ministry of Energy engineers and environmental surveyors completed site evaluations in the Kiranchi and Veravil regions of Kilinochchi District to map final land allocations for a proposed 204 MW wind power facility. The strategic clean energy deployment involves positioning 34 individual wind turbines, each rated at 6 MW, along the wind rich coastal corridor. The installation aims to strengthen regional supply stability and reduce Sri Lanka's reliance on imported thermal generation. In response to feedback from local agricultural committees regarding coconut plantation boundaries, project coordinators established a joint environmental task force to adjust turbine positioning, safeguard community farmland, and implement reforestation programs.
