The Mawathagama administrative complex project, valued at Rs. 420 million, will consolidate local government services, public health offices, and municipal planning departments into a single modern energy-efficient facility. Located along the main Kandy–Kurunegala road, the complex includes public assembly halls, digitized citizen service counters, and solar rooftop power generation. In Kurunegala city, urban planning authorities have initiated site preparations for middle-rise mixed-use commercial developments under a BOI investment framework. The projects aim to address rising demand for modern office space, retail centers, and multi-story parking facilities in the city core, which has experienced rapid commercial expansion due to its position as a regional transit hub. Parallel municipal works include the rehabilitation of urban drainage channels along the Dambulla Road corridor to prevent flash flooding during monsoonal downpours, alongside street lighting upgrades using energy-efficient LED systems. District Secretary officials confirmed that civic infrastructure investments across Kurunegala's 30 divisional secretariat areas are being monitored under a unified digital dashboard to ensure adherence to quality standards and completion timelines.
