The Ministry of Estate Housing and Community Infrastructure has initiated a comprehensive review to facilitate the restructuring and reopening of 35 non-operational tea processing factories across the Nuwara Eliya district.

State Minister Jeevan Thondaman announced that modernization programs will focus on adopting energy-efficient bio-mass drying technology, automated leaf sorting, and sustainable financial restructuring for struggling estate managements. Government officials emphasized that reviving local factories is crucial to securing daily employment for estate worker families and preventing distress sales of green leaf by regional smallholders.
