The Ministry of Fisheries directed the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) to launch a scientific survey monitoring migratory fish stocks along the southern coast.
Concurrently, civil repair contracts commenced across major fishery harbors in Dodanduwa, Hikkaduwa, and Ambalangoda. The upgrades include dredging harbor basins, installing wave-breaking piers, and constructing specialized fiberglass vessel waste recycling units.
Fishery cooperative leaders stated the modernized facilities will improve vessel safety during seasonal monsoons while upholding export sanitation standards for yellowfin tuna shipments.
