The Ministry of Transport and Highways, in collaboration with Sri Lanka Railways, has officially commenced a major passenger facility modernization drive across five high-density railway stations in the Kalutara District: Panadura, Wadduwa, Kalutara South, Beruwala, and Aluthgama.

Following recent safety reviews along the coastal railway corridor, the project introduces automated ticketing barriers, enhanced platform illumination, and fortified pedestrian crossings to eliminate unauthorized track access. Station superintendents noted that the upgrades will significantly streamline daily commuter movements while ensuring stringent safety standards along one of the nation's busiest passenger transit routes.
