COLOMBO — The historic Namel Malini Punchi Theatre in Borella has unveiled the official programming for 'Theatre Town 2026', a four-day drama festival kicking off on September 18 to champion original Sri Lankan stage plays.

The festival lineup curated by veteran directors showcases an eclectic mix of contemporary social satire, experimental physical theatre, and translated classical plays produced by young university drama graduates and independent performance troupes.

In addition to evening performances, Theatre Town 2026 will host interactive daytime panel discussions on script development, stage lighting architecture, and funding models for sustainable vernacular community theatre across suburban Colombo.

Organizers stressed that fostering accessible community theatre venues is vital for nurturing new generations of dramatists and providing audiences with thought-provoking cultural discourse.
