The National Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) in Kalutara officially launched an advanced certification curriculum in community emergency paramedicine and disaster triage today, September 23, 2026.

Developed with technical input from the World Health Organization (WHO), the professional course trains provincial public health staff in high-intensity trauma stabilization, flood-rescue first response, and maternal care during natural crises. NIHS directors highlighted that equipping local frontline practitioners with accredited paramedic capabilities significantly reduces pre-hospital mortality and ensures rapid emergency medical delivery during severe weather emergencies across the Western Province.
