The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) extended its landslide early warning advisory for vulnerable hilly terrains across the Kurunegala District today, September 22, 2026.

Following sustained monsoonal rains that recorded over 85 mm of precipitation in Polpithigama and surrounding areas, Level 1 and Level 2 alerts remain in effect for the divisional secretariat divisions of Polgahawela, Alawwa, Mawathagama, and Narammala until 4:00 PM. Disaster management officials urged residents living near cut slopes, unstable hill embankments, and rock outcrop zones to remain vigilant for signs of slope failure, ground subsidence, or sudden muddy springs.
