Fisheries cooperatives across the Jaffna peninsula are reporting increased operating capacities following the comprehensive revitalization of the Karainagar Boatyard and ongoing infrastructure upgrades at Myliddy Fishery Harbour.

The Karainagar facility, managed in coordination with national marine engineering agencies, has resumed routine dry-dock servicing, fiberglass hull fabrication, and engine overhauls for regional multi-day fishing craft, cutting repair turnaround times by half. At Myliddy, upgraded cold-chain ice plants and hygienic processing sheds now service expanding catches of blue swimming crab and commercial sea cucumber cultured in Velanai and Sandilipay. Fisheries officials stated that modernizing post-harvest logistics in Jaffna ensures Northern seafood meets rigorous EU and Asian sanitary compliance standards, delivering direct economic gains to local artisanal families.
