Sri Lanka Railways (SLR) civil engineers successfully completed comprehensive dynamic speed and track stability trials along the Northern Railway line connecting Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, and Kankesanthurai (KKS) today, September 23, 2026.

The technical assessments validated newly reinforced ballast formations, culvert drainage widening, and modern color-light signaling installations across the Jaffna peninsula corridor. Railway authorities confirmed that the upgrades allow the Yal Devi and Uttara Devi intercity express trains to sustain optimal operating speeds of 100 km/h with enhanced passenger safety and unhindered schedules during monsoon weather.
