The Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council, in coordination with the Central Environmental Authority and the Urban Development Authority, launched a comprehensive environmental remediation program at Lake Gregory today, September 25, 2026.

The multi-phase project deploys eco-friendly silt suction dredgers to remove accumulated organic sediments from inlet feeder streams and activates biological microbial water treatments to enhance overall lake clarity. Concurrently, municipal leisure officers enforced upgraded licensing for recreational motorboats and swan pedal-craft, mandating certified life jacket protocols and designated swimming-free water corridors to ensure visitor recreation remains completely safe during rainy mountain weather.
