COLOMBO — Colombo's verdant central park will resonate with rhythmic vitality on September 19 as the Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre hosts 'Thaala Samaggraha', a landmark live open-air percussion festival.

The concert brings together legendary master drummers representing Up-Country (Geta Beraya), Low-Country (Yak Beraya), and Sabaragamuwa (Davula) drumming traditions, performing alongside contemporary acoustic jazz and ethnic fusion musicians.

Highlights of the evening include choreographed multi-drum dialogues, traditional Vannam interpretations, and modern experimental polyrhythmic jam sessions designed to showcase the acoustic range and cultural depth of Sri Lanka's indigenous instruments.

The cultural department confirmed that open-air arts concerts in public municipal spaces are part of an ongoing drive to revitalize Colombo's weekend cultural offerings for families and foreign visitors alike.
