The Ministry of Plantation Industries, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tea Board, officially expanded its flagship 'Ceylon Tea Village' initiative across the Badulla District today, September 25, 2026, launching regional cluster models centered around Uwaparanagama and Bandarawela.

The program aims to elevate national tea export earnings toward the US$ 2.5 billion target by uniting smallholders into cooperative processing hubs and introducing certified organic artisanal cultivars. In addition to high-efficiency leaf collection logistics, the initiative equips upland estates with farm-stay cottages and guided tea-tasting pavilions, tapping into growing global demand for specialty Uva high-grown artisanal teas and authentic agricultural travel experiences.
