Officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) deployed at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake successfully intercepted two separate drug trafficking attempts early this morning, September 20, 2026, arresting three foreign passengers arriving on flights from Bangkok.

In the first operation, customs and narcotics officers intercepted a 38-year-old female traveler found concealing 3.22 kilograms of high-potency 'Kush' cannabis and 1.85 kilograms of hashish inside false compartments of her luggage. A subsequent raid intercepted two additional female suspects carrying nearly 2 kilograms of Kush and 620 grams of hashish. Airport police authorities confirmed that the suspects were remanded to PNB headquarters for custodial interrogation to identify domestic distribution networks operating in the Western Province.
