Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has directed the Colombo Municipal Council, the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation (SLLDC), and regional disaster management units to execute immediate proactive flood mitigation interventions across high-risk urban drainage basins in Colombo.

Chairing a special coordination review, the Prime Minister emphasized that seasonal rainfall peaks require early canal desilting, trash-trap clearances, and storm-water pump station testing to prevent prolonged waterlogging in low-lying residential suburbs including Kolonnawa, Kaduwela, and Wellampitiya. Municipal engineering brigades have been deployed to eliminate bottlenecks along major urban canals and ensure unobstructed water outflow into the Kelani River basin.
