A 48-hour token strike initiated by the Railway Station Masters' Association and allied railway service unions is scheduled to officially conclude at midnight on September 18. The industrial action was organized around long-standing departmental administrative grievances and disciplinary inquiries regarding union representatives.

The Department of Railways reported that proactive contingency scheduling enabled regular commuter and long-distance trains to operate out of Colombo Fort and Maradana stations throughout the day, ensuring minimal disruption for daily office workers. Normal ticketing and operational schedules are expected to resume across all railway divisions starting tomorrow morning.
