The Road Development Authority (RDA) has accelerated civil construction and traffic integration works across the Getambe junction and William Gopallawa Mawatha in Kandy today, September 27, 2026, marking a critical transition in easing urban gridlock across the central hill capital.

Constructed through technical collaboration with international engineering partners, the multi-tier Getambe flyover is engineered to segregate through-traffic heading toward Peradeniya and Katugastota from local commuters entering the heritage city centre. RDA engineers confirmed that structural spans over the railway alignment and pedestrian underpasses are nearing final paving. Concurrently, lane-widening operations along William Gopallawa Mawatha will establish continuous four-lane dual carriageways, significantly reducing transit delays for public transport, emergency services, and highland supply logistics.
