The Road Development Authority (RDA) has formally opened two newly reconstructed dual-lane concrete bridges along the vital A15 coastal highway connecting Trincomalee to Batticaloa today, September 27, 2026.

The engineering project replaced aging single-lane structures prone to tidal flooding during Northeast monsoon depressions. The new elevated bridges feature reinforced anti-corrosive marine concrete, widened pedestrian walkways, and deepened under-bridge drainage channels that facilitate free tidal flush into coastal lagoons. RDA project directors stated that the completion of the arterial bridges eliminates transport bottlenecks for agricultural produce, seafood transports, and passenger transit across Eastern Province communities.
