The Road Development Authority (RDA) officially commenced heavy road restoration works on the Bangadeniya–Anamaduwa road on August 10, 2026, focusing on the critically damaged Pallama section in Puttalam District. The project, supported by a dedicated capital allocation exceeding Rs. 150 million, targets arterial road stretches that sustained severe structural degradation during recent torrential rain and flooding events. Floodwaters severely eroded road shoulders, compromised culverts, and created hazardous potholes along key freight and commuter routes connecting coastal Bangadeniya to inland Anamaduwa. Project engineers confirmed that the scope of work includes excavating and relaying damaged sub-base layers, constructing reinforced concrete retaining walls along vulnerable canal embankments, and laying asphalt concrete surfacing across the 8 km primary work zone. In addition to the main carriage restoration, the RDA has prioritized clearing and upgrading roadside drainage networks along the Pallama stretch to prevent future waterlogging during monsoonal downpours. Commuters and local agricultural transporters in Anamaduwa welcomed the project launch, noting that the degraded state of the road had significantly increased vehicle maintenance costs and added over 45 minutes to daily transport times for produce moving toward western retail markets.
