In line with the newly unveiled National Tourism Strategic Planning roadmap (2026–2031), the Central Cultural Fund has initiated modern visitor management upgrades around the UNESCO World Heritage ancient citadel of Sigiriya.

The conservation initiatives introduce low-impact electric shuttle transit, digital multi-lingual audio guides, and regulated eco-tourism buffer zones to safeguard the delicate fifth-century water gardens and mirror wall frescoes. Officials underscored that sustainable heritage stewardship is essential to maintaining Sigiriya’s status as Sri Lanka’s flagship cultural destination while maximizing revenue for local artisan communities.
