Conservation architects from the Central Cultural Fund and the Sri Dalada Maligawa administration completed a major heritage documentation and digital archival initiative in Kandy today, September 24, 2026, following the successful conclusion of the 2026 Esala festival season.

The project utilized non-invasive laser scanning, high-resolution photogrammetry, and micro-climate sensor networks to map the historic Paththirippuwa (Octagon), inner shrine wood carvings, and perimeter stone ramparts. Curators emphasized that the high-fidelity digital twin will inform preventive maintenance against humidity and monsoonal weathering while establishing an immutable historical record for academic research and international conservation bodies.
