COLOMBO & GENEVA — Sri Lanka’s official delegation to the 63rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva delivered a comprehensive statement highlighting the government's systematic progress on institutional integrity, anti-corruption enforcement, and legislative modernization.

During the interactive dialogue on human rights and rule of law, Sri Lankan representatives reaffirmed the government’s firm policy commitment toward structural governance reforms. Key milestones presented to the international forum included the accelerated operationalization of the Anti-Corruption Act, reinforced investigatory powers for the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), and public procurement digitalization to eradicate institutional leakages.

Addressing national security legislation, the delegation reiterated the government's active roadmap to repeal and replace the long-standing Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) with a modern counter-terrorism legal framework aligned with international human rights benchmarks and democratic safeguards.

Diplomatic observers noted that Sri Lanka’s constructive engagement in Geneva reflects a clear strategic pivot toward transparent governance and sustainable economic recovery, as international development partners continue to support institutional capacity building across the island.
