The Uva Provincial Tourism Ministry has unveiled a Rs. 320.6 million tourism development roadmap designating 10 key locations across Badulla District as climate-sensitive eco-tourism zones. The program funds targeted infrastructure upgrades at high-traffic natural attractions, including renovated safety viewing platforms at Dunhinda Ella waterfall, access road paving leading to Kithalella rock pool, and improved trail amenities at Aradunu, Gerandi, Paraviyan, and Bibilegama waterfalls. In Ella town — Sri Lanka's popular hill-country tourism hub — the provincial ministry is installing energy-efficient street lamps and standardized multilingual tourist navigation signboards across 92 strategic locations. A specialized sub-project valued at Rs. 139.77 million focuses on developing Uva Paranagama as a dedicated agro-heritage tourism zone, featuring terraced paddy walking trails, historic water channel tours, and farm-stay homestays. Tourism officials confirmed that environmental carrying capacity studies will govern visitor management in all 10 zones to protect delicate montane ecosystems from over-commercialization.
