Youth rowing crews, windsurfers, and beach volleyball teams from nine provinces converged at Sandy Bay and Inner Harbour Trincomalee today, September 27, 2026, for the opening matches of the All-Island Coastal Sports Championship.

Organized jointly by the Ministry of Sports and the Eastern Naval Command, the regatta featured laser-class sailing, double scull coastal rowing, and competitive beach volleyball leagues. Athletes competed in ideal sailing breezes across Trincomalee's natural deep-water bay. Sports administrators emphasized that hosting major inter-provincial tournaments in regional coastal hubs fosters youth camaraderie, identifies national nautical athletic talent, and spotlights Eastern sports tourism infrastructure.
