The Faculty of Technology at the University of Jaffna has formally opened its Northern Youth Technology & Artificial Intelligence Incubation Centre, designed to accelerate regional startup ventures in smart agriculture, marine data science, and cloud computing.

Equipped with high-performance computing clusters and IoT prototyping laboratories, the incubator has admitted its first cohort of 60 undergraduate and diploma innovators from across Jaffna and Kilinochchi. Priority research projects include low-cost soil salinity sensor networks for peninsula red-onion and chili farmers, automated drone monitoring for palmyrah palm health, and bilingual Tamil-Sinhala voice AI models for civic administrative tools. Academic mentors emphasized that cultivating homegrown engineering talent locally will attract foreign software outsourcing partnerships directly to Northern IT parks.
